La Femme Boheme at LOLA, 2014
A gender-bent take on Puccini's classic! The opera focuses on the tender love story between Rodolfo, a poet, and Mimì, a shy seamstress who lives in the same building. They fall in love one cold Christmas Eve, but their relationship is challenged by hardship, jealousy, and Mimì’s failing health.
Alongside their story is the playful, on-again, off-again romance between Rodolfo’s friend Marcello and the lively Musetta. The group of friends support one another through ups and downs, sharing moments of joy, humor, and heartbreak.
As Mimì’s illness worsens, she and Rodolfo briefly reunite, but it is too late. Surrounded by her friends, Mimì quietly passes away, leaving Rodolfo devastated.
