Don Giovanni at AO
As the opera begins, Don Giovanni kills the father of a young woman he tries to seduce. Despite the danger and growing list of enemies, he continues his reckless behavior, lying and manipulating his way through one romantic conquest after another. His loyal but frustrated servant, Leporello, follows him and often provides comic relief, especially when listing the countless women Don Giovanni has pursued.
Throughout the opera, several characters seek justice or revenge: Donna Anna, whose father was killed; Donna Elvira, a former lover who still hopes to change him; and Zerlina, a young bride he tries to seduce on her wedding day.
In the final act, Don Giovanni is confronted by a supernatural force—the statue of the man he killed. Offered a chance to repent, he arrogantly refuses. The statue drags him to his doom, and the remaining characters reflect on the consequences of his actions.
